Comox Valley Regional Emergency Cooling Spaces
Cooling spaces in the Comox Valley provide temporary relief from extreme heat conditions.
UPDATE (Aug 10): the Heat Warning issued by Environment Canada on August 7 has ENDED for East Vancouver Island (including Comox Valley).
Heat Safety
Comox Valley Regional Emergency Mobile Cooling Services may consist of:
- Daily visits and delivery of supplies to each designated cooling station in Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, CVRD recreation facilities, and in community parks.
- Checking in on the vulnerable unhoused populations in each of the municipalities, the CVRD, and on K’omoks First Nation reserve lands.
- Delivering bottled water, ice, fresh fruit, sun protection, and heat preparedness materials to all stations and on community rounds.
- Delivering water and hydration packs to City of Courtenay Bylaw service for their morning daily rounds.
- Connecting with local community partners (K’omoks First Nation Health, Wachiay Friendship Centre, Vancouver Island libraries in Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland, Island Health, and contracted community outreach teams).
