The Hudson and Greenwood trunks are regional gravity sewer mains installed in 2018 and 2019. The trunk mains were constructed to alleviate capacity constraints in the Comox Valley Sewerage Service by reducing sewer flows to the existing Courtenay Pump Station and to service anticipated development in northeast Courtenay and north Comox. Sewer from these mains flows directly to the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre (CVWPCC) located on Brent Road.

In 2024 several developments were proposed that far exceed the original design density projections used for sizing the Hudson Trunk. As a result of this significantly higher than anticipated density, capacity constraints have been identified within the Hudson Trunk and communicated to the municipalities and developers.
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) recognizes the importance of municipal development and the capacity of regional infrastructure to support such development. The CVRD has been working with the City of Courtenay and Town of Comox to better understand the development potential within the catchment areas of the Hudson and Greenwood sewer trunks in light of the province’s small-scale, multi-unit housing legislation (Bill 44) introduced in 2023. A servicing study is currently underway to review the scope, timing and projected infrastructure upgrades required to service higher density developments in this area.
The servicing study is expected to be complete in spring/summer 2025 and will be shared once complete.
