At the December 5th Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) Board meeting, the remaining $1,617,000 from the Growing Communities Funds (GCF) were allocated to two projects that build infrastructure and amenities necessary to support growing communities. The funds are allocated as follows:
- $808,500 to the new artificial turf field as described by the Comox Valley Recreation Commission; and
- $808,500 to the Sewer Extension South project.
“These two projects are key pieces to the growth and sustainability of the Comox Valley,” explains CVRD Board Chair Will Cole-Hamilton. “While there a number of projects ongoing throughout the community that deserve financial attention, this funding follows the Board’s key strategic drivers and priorities while meeting the acceptance requirements of the grant. We look forward to seeing their impact for years to come.”
In addition to the funds allocated above, the following funding was approved in May 2023:
- Denman Island Fire Hall Replacement Project (2025) $850,000;
- Mount Washington Fire Hall Project (2023) $600,000;
- Union Bay Fire Hall Replacement Project (2024) $1,195,000;
- Denman Island Cross Trail (2024) $25,000;
- Goose Spit Trail (2024) $90,000;
- Seal Bay Nature Park (2025/2026) $120,000;
