Get prepared this spring

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is celebrating Emergency Preparedness Week by reminding residents to be prepared.

“Get informed – know the risks within your community, make a plan and an emergency preparedness kit,” states Comox Valley Emergency Program Coordinator Howie Siemens. “Ensuring you and your family have a plan in place will alleviate extra stress and confusion in difficult times. Every step we each individually take reduces the burden on our emergency response personnel.”

Three years ago, the CVRD implemented an emergency notification tool with the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox and Village of Cumberland to distribute local emergency notifications by text message and voice calls directly to resident’s cellphones and landlines. This May make sure you register for emergency alerts and check your pre-existing account to ensure details and phone numbers are accurate.

When registering choose the communities in which you live, work and play. We encourage everyone to register for more than one contact list as it will ensure you receive the appropriate alerts in times when public health and safety maybe at risk. If you are unable to register online then please call 250-334-6000 for help.
