Keep The Momentum Going With Commuter Challenge June 2-8

Bike to Work Week is wrapping up and the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is encouraging everyone to keep the momentum going June 2 to 8. The Commuter Challenge is a one-week event that promotes commuting to work by walking, cycling, taking transit, carpooling, telecommuting, or even paddling for at least one day of your weekly commute.

Bike to Work Week supports cyclists getting out on the road, but what about people that don’t have a bicycle, or don’t have a reasonable distance to cycle? Commuter Challenge encourages all modes of active and sustainable transportation, even if it’s setting up a new carpool or trying transit, because having less cars on the road benefits everyone. Or consider a combination of cycling and transit by putting your bike on the bus for part of your trip.

Using sustainable modes of transportation reduces carbon emissions, saves money, increases productivity and improves health. In addition to these many benefits there are prizes too! The Commuter Challenge grand prize is a $1,000 VIA Rail trip across Canada, plus $400 in pampering at Breathe Health Collective, $200 to Quality Foods Courtenay and lots of other local prizes and gift certificates. Every person that registers has a chance to win a $20 coffee shop gift card.
