Park Closure Beginning May 23, 2024

May 8, 2024

The parking lot and viewing platform area at Dyke Road Park will close on May 23, 2024 as part of the complete park rebuild and shoreline restoration.  Closure of the park and parking lot along Comox Road are required to properly dismantle the viewing platform and allow the K'omoks Guardians and archaeologists to complete further archaeological investigations.  The viewing platform will be recycled and taken to 19 Wing Comox to be used for training purposes.

The parking lot and viewing area are slated to be closed from May 23 until the fall of 2025 to coincide with the Sewer Conveyance Project.  This project will bring a revitalized park space with new amenities for the community to enjoy.

History

The northern portion of Dyke Road Park offers most of the park’s amenities, including the wildlife-viewing platform and wheelchair facilities. The platform was originally built by the Strathcona Sunrise Rotary Club and is also known as the Rotary Outlook. The southern portion of the park, donated by Lafarge Canada Inc. In 2016, provides park visitors with gravel parking areas and a quiet location to relax and view wildlife. Dyke Road Park also includes the foreshore.

Information

Dyke Road Park is located on the K’ómoks estuary, adjacent to a Nature Trust property and Ducks Unlimited property, both of which are held for their value as wildlife habitats. The park provides a good opportunity for wildlife viewing on the estuary, with exceptional panoramic glacier, mountain and ocean views.
