The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is inviting the public to learn more about the new Water Treatment Project that will address water quality issues and meet current health standards at two upcoming information sessions.
The events will be held:
- Monday, January 29, 5-7 pm: CVRD’s Boardroom, 550B Comox Road, Courtenay
- Thursday, February 1, 5-7 pm: Comox Golf Club, 1718 Balmoral Avenue, Comox
The drop-in style Open Houses will provide an overview of the project to date, the reasons why a new system is needed, and a summary of the required next steps to secure grant funding and proceed with construction.
“We know community interest in the new water treatment system is very high,” said Bob Wells, the CVRD’s Chair of the Water Committee. “The CVRD has a strong plan for moving forward to deliver residents the modern system they deserve, and we look forward to keeping everyone informed as the project moves forward.”
The project is estimated to cost $110 million and at least 74 per cent will be paid by reserves and grant funding. However, up to $29 million must be borrowed to pay for the remaining share of costs. The CVRD will use the Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to obtain the consent of Comox Valley residents to borrow the necessary funds.
