The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is offering residents an opportunity to learn more about smart control for outdoor irrigation at a workshop being held on Saturday, May 4th at 9:30 a.m. at the banquet room in the Comox Valley curling club (4835 Headquarters Road, Courtenay).
A presentation by Cara MacDonald, a professional irrigation designer from MacDonald Gray, will provide residents with more information on smart control – a new generation of products that are available that will automatically adjust your irrigation schedule based on actual site and weather conditions. These controllers can prevent irrigation when it rains, automatically adjust to manage hot and dry spells, and water in a way that reduces runoff from slopes.
“There are many ways an irrigation system can be inefficient in terms of water use,” said Marc Rutten, senior manager of engineering services. “This session will explain how to mitigate this waste through the use of smart control technology as well as provide helpful tips for improving water efficiency throughout the irrigation system.”
This workshop will also offer the participants the insider scoop on the upcoming launch of the CVRD's smart control outdoor irrigation rebate program. Come prepared to ask questions and learn more on how commercial or residential properties connected to the Comox Valley water system can apply for up to $300 off the purchase of an installed smart irrigation control system.
