The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is embarking on another year of its electoral area home energy incentives savings program, aimed at helping residents save money on efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This year, the program provides a $500 incentive for an energy assessment and for draft-proofing, which focuses on sealing air leaks such as those around doors and windows. You can save money on your energy costs and add value to your home with this single effort. According to BC Hydro, sealing gaps and cracks can reduce your heating costs by up to 10 per cent.
According to the provincial Community Energy and Emissions Inventory (CEEI) for the CVRD electoral areas, buildings represent approximately 22 per cent of the areas’ greenhouse gas emissions.
The program runs until December 31, 2014, and the incentives are available on a first-come, first-served basis. This program is for residents of the CVRD’s electoral areas who did not take advantage of the energy incentives savings program offered in 2012 and 2013. Applicants must be the registered property owner of residential properties located in Lazo North (Area ‘B’),Puntledge-Black Creek (Area ‘C’), or the Vancouver Island portion of Baynes Sound (Area ‘A’) of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD).
