Question on Housing the Homeless on 2014 Civic Election Ballot

Voters in the Comox Valley will have a chance to express their level of support for funding homeless housing initiatives when they go to the polls in the November 15 civic election.

The CVRD board of directors wishes to know if voters are willing to proactively help address the complex problem of housing the homeless in our community. The question will be on the ballot for voters in both the municipal and rural areas of the Comox Valley, and is intended to gauge the public’s attitude. A favourable response would not provide authority to tax homeowners, but would provide the board with an idea of the community’s feeling on the subject.  In the future, should the board decide to move forward with taxation to support initiatives on housing for the homeless, formal public approval would be required.
