Staff at the Comox Valley Regional District’s (CVRD) sports and aquatic centres have been busy organizing new boredom-busting special events, programs and daycamps to keep kids active this March.
At the aquatic centre, “super saver” swims have been added during swim lesson times which have been cancelled during the school break. In addition, everyone is welcome to join in for two free evening swims thanks to the sponsorship of Tim Hortons. These free swims run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on March 21 and 23, 2017. Also new are value-added experiences at regular drop-in swims. Kids can join the lifeguards for “Water Play,” a variety of activities including group challenges, games, as well as waterslide and canoe races. “Welcome to the Goo Zone” is all about messy, wet aquatic fun. Lifeguards will stock up on all kinds of goo for this event including pudding, jello, Cheetos and shaving cream.
Mark your calendars for “Epic Beach Party Night,” a pizza and swimming party for 7 to 12 year olds, which takes place on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. This is a night full of games including a hula hoop competition, pineapple bowling, karaoke, a dance-off, limbo contest, trivia and more. Admission is $10 and includes snacks, pizza and beach-themed party favours.
If all this doesn’t keep your kids busy enough, consider registering them in one of the CVRD’s spring break daycamps at the sports centre. These include Junior Lifeguard or Hockey Skills Camps for 6 to 13 year olds, or Sports Camp for 5 to 13 year olds.
Junior Lifeguard Camp is one of three spring break daycamps newly offered by the CVRD’s sports and aquatic centres this March.
