The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) board of directors has adopted the 2017 budget that includes a total consolidated budget of $112.2 million (a net operating budget for the year of $70.6 million and total capital spending of $41.6 million).
"The 2017 budget continues with the board’s focus on ensuring that the Comox Valley maintains and improves its livability," explains CVRD Board Chair Bruce Jolliffe."This includes moving forward with the design and construction of a drinking water treatment plant, the completion of an engineered landfill site that will protect the environment, and the design of a new Civic Centre regional office that will better meet needs of both residents and staff."
The consolidated budget includes three funds: general, water and sewer. The 2017 budget reflects major projects underway in various services in all of the funds. The table below highlights some of the activities:
General Fund
New engineered landfill engineering and construction at the Comox Valley waste management centre $11.1 million
Completion of new Hornby Island fire hall construction $710,000
Comox Valley sports centre energy retrofit and heat recovery project $471,000
Comox Valley Civic Centre Project – land purchase, design and start of construction $1.24 million
Water Fund
Water treatment facility engineering and design $2.0 million
Sandwick water service conversion and meter installation $815,000
Royston water fire flow improvements $450,000
Sewer Fund
Sewer infrastructure projects include Comox #2 pump station, HMCS Quadra force main replacement, Hudson and Greenwood trunk construction and odor control improvements at sewage treatment facility $15.5 million
These are in addition to the regular services provided by the CVRD that include land use planning, fire protection, electoral areas parks and greenways, building inspection, drinking water treatment and supply, operation of the waste management centres in the Comox Valley and Campbell River, and recreation facilities.
