Regional Growth Strategy Minor Amendment

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is updating its Regional Growth Strategy (RGS). The scope of these amendments, captured below, was approved by the CVRD Board of Directors and will not alter any policies or objectives outlined in the RGS. Rather, the changes will focus on:

  • Updating population projects and demographic data based on current census data
  • Revising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets based on progress
  • Incorporating existing boundary changes into RGS maps
  • Incorporating CVRD’s Indigenous Relations Framework

Given the nature of these amendments, there is no anticipated impact on residents. The scope is considered minor and aligns with the scope approved by the Board of Directors approved in May 2023.

Engagement

Amending a Regional Growth Strategy triggers certain engagement requirements under the Local Government Act. These updates meet the criteria to be considered a “minor amendment,” meaning the public will not be engaged on the amendments, but the CVRD is committed to updating and informing residents in a timely manner.
