We are accepting applications for a permanent full-time Supervisor- Recreation Operations to join our Community Services team. The Supervisor-Recreation Operations is responsible for leading a team of unionized staff to achieve excellence in customer service, operations and maintenance within the Comox Valley Regional District’s Sports and Aquatic Centres. Reporting to the Manager of Sport Centre Operations, and working closely with the Manager of the Aquatic Centre and Exhibition Grounds Operations, the primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Scheduling, supervising, training, mentoring and providing day-to-day direction to operations staff;
  • Ensuring a safe and clean environment for facility patrons and staff;
  • Assisting with the coordination of maintenance activities, ensuring staff and/or contractors, materials and equipment are available and safety requirements are met;
  • Providing input on equipment maintenance needs and monitoring inventory of service supplies;
  • Performing the same duties as a Facility Maintenance Worker as needed;
  • Troubleshooting maintenance issues as they arise and performing complex adjustments and repairs to facility operating systems and equipment;
  • Drafting safety and shut down procedures for review;
  • Maintaining manual and electronic records pertaining to the operations and maintenance of facilities and equipment;
  • Supporting the set up and take down of facilities for special events, scheduled programs, and user groups;
  • Implementing the asset management plan utilizing NAMS software as required;
  • Performing safety and security checks of facilities and opening and closing facility duties;
  • Responding to routine inquiries, providing assistance to user groups and the public and resolving the more serious complaints.

Our ideal candidate is:

  • A proven leader who promotes teamwork and cooperation with a minimum of five years of directly related experience in a similar capacity overseeing daily activities of unionized staff;
  • Experienced in scheduling, training, mentoring, and directing the work of others with related supervisory skills training;
  • Current in asset management principles with NAMS certification to be obtained within one year;
  • A respectful communicator with a professional, courteous approach to customer service and advanced conflict resolution skills;
  • Able to effectively balance competing priorities in a busy, fast-paced environment;
  • Educated with a high school diploma (or equivalent) and the following certifications: BC Safety Authority Refrigeration Operators certification, Pool Operator Level I and II, current standard first aid, and WHMIS;
  • Current in all building systems components and their correct operation, adjustment, servicing, and repair;
  • Knowledgeable in arena ice making, maintenance methods and procedures, the operation and maintenance of arena refrigeration plants, swimming pool filtration, and heating and ventilation systems;
  • Able to analyze and troubleshoot issues related to recreation facility operations and develop and implement solutions;
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite and other applications related to the work such as PerfectMind software;
  • Detail oriented and able to keep accurate and complete records;
  • Safety conscious and able to effectively respond to emergency situations when required;
  • Flexible in working a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Additional preferred qualifications include: Building Service Worker Certificate – Level I or equivalent and emergency training experience or education.

A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is required for this role. Successful candidates will be required to consent to a Canadian Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector search.
