Connection Improvements and handyDART Services Expanded in Comox Valley

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), in partnership with BC Transit, are excited to announce two service improvements: a new connection with Nanaimo Transit System at Deep Bay, along with expanded handyDART services to include evenings.

The new connection, which started in early September, will go from Fanny Bay to Deep Bay and allow residents and visitors to travel between Comox Valley and the Qualicum Beach, Parksville and Nanaimo areas. The route will run from Monday to Saturday, with two return trips per day and provides residents with a great way to access services and visit with friends and family south of the Comox Valley.

In addition, handyDART services have been updated to offer trips in the evening (4:30 to 7:00 pm) Monday to Friday. The new evening service, along with the existing weekend service, provides a great opportunity for handyDART users to shift some of their trips away from peak times when the service is at capacity and trip requests may not be able to be accommodated.

To promote these service options, until the end of the year CVRD is offering free travel to registered users on handyDART after 5:00 pm weekdays and all day on weekends.

“These service improvements mark another step forward in establishing public transit as a convenient and affordable transportation option in the Comox Valley,” explains CVRD Chair Will Cole-Hamilton. “Travelling on Vancouver Island can be difficult without a vehicle and it’s important to provide transportation options to everyone in the community. Thank you to BC Transit for this continued partnership.”

These changes highlight a desire to create more transportation options in the Comox Valley, as outlined in the Transit Future Action Plan developed by the CVRD and BC Transit based on public feedback.
