The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) will be conducting water main flushing in the Royston water system from March 27 through April 7, 2017.
On weekdays between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Royston residents may experience short periods of low pressure and discoloured water. While water main flushing does not pose a risk to the general population, immune compromised residents should consult with their doctor or nurse practitioner about whether to take extra precautions with their drinking water.
Activities like laundry, dishwashing and showering that require clear, pressurized water should be avoided during the day. Flushing will cease in the evening and residents are advised to run their cold water tap until water is clear prior to resuming their usual activities.
“Regular water main flushing is an important component of a comprehensive water management program,” explained Mike Herschmiller, Manager of Water Services. “We understand this is an inconvenience and ask for the public’s patience and understanding as we perform the maintenance that is necessary to keep the water system healthy.”
The flushing program will cover about 35 kilometers of water supply mains throughout the Royston water system. Water will be flushed at a high velocity through the pipes to remove minor sediment, helping to keep the drinking water system safe and clean for residents.
