The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is advising residents it will undertake work to repair potholes on Hawkins Road in and around Goose Spit Park for a four day period starting June 22 and ending June 25, 2020.
Trenching and paving will be happening during the hours of 7:00 am to 5:00 pm in different locations throughout the park, starting from Hawkins Road hill through to the entrance of HMCS Quadra.
Park goers can expect single lane closures with flaggers directing traffic for most repair areas. Sections of road near the middle of the park will need to be closed in both directions at varying times to ensure that all equipment and excavated material in this zone remains on paved areas. These measures are in place to protect sensitive environmental habitat including the endangered yellow sand-verbena plants.
During periods when the road is closed in both directions, traffic will be detoured through the parking area in the middle of the park. While traffic is being directed through, this area will be closed to parking and pedestrian use to ensure the safety of park goers.
Goose Spit stairs remain open for uphill use only to allow for physical distancing. Stair climbers can return to Goose Spit Park via Yates Road and Hawkins Greenway which is an 820 metre round trip.
The Comox Valley Regional District is a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities providing sustainable services for residents and visitors to the area. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
