The Comox Strathocona Waste Management (CSWM) service would like to thank the property owners at the Courtenay Home Depot location for providing space for the placement of the recycling bins for the past 10 years. On Friday, January 31, 2014 the recycling bins will be removed at the property owner’s request.
The closest alternative multi-material recycling depots are located behind the Canex store in Comox (1375 Military Row, Comox) open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. or the Courtenay Country Market location (5352 North Island Highway, Courtenay).
“Municipal residents with curbside recycling pick-up are encouraged to use that convenient service,” said Koreen Gurak, CVRD’s manager of communications. “The curbside pick-up program allows for unlimited quantities of recycling and by taking part you can assist with reducing the larger volumes of material collected at the depots.”
The depots are provided for residential purposes only. Local businesses are encouraged to seek opportunities with a waste collection contractor or alternatively to use the depots at the Comox Valley or Campbell River waste management centres.
As a reminder, residents in the Comox Valley and Strathcona Regional Districts can continue to drop off their recycling at the following locations:
Canex CFB Comox (open daily 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.) |

The Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) service is a function of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and is responsible for two regional waste management centres that serve the Comox Valley and Campbell River, as well as a range of transfer stations and smaller waste-handling and recycling facilities for the electoral areas of the CVRD and the Strathcona Regional District. The CSWM service manages over 100,000 tonnes of waste and recycled material and oversees a number of diversion and education programs.
