Local Athlete To Be Recognized For Achievements at Rio's Paralympics

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) invites the public to attend a celebration to recognize the achievements of local athlete Bryon Green who participated in wheelchair rugby at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

A short ceremony, followed by refreshments, will take place in the lobby of the CVRD’s sports centre, located at 3001 Vanier Drive in Courtenay on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 7:00 p.m, not in the afternoon as previously announced.

Many Olympic and Paralympic athletes hail from the Comox Valley and have been acknowledged by the community for their dedication and skill, as well as leadership in sport.

Byron is no exception, having made the national wheelchair rugby team in 2013 and competing in international events, earning silver at the 2014 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships and gold at the 2015 Toronto Parapan American Games. He then went on to secure a spot on the Canadian Olympic wheelchair rugby team in the spring of 2016 and competed at Rio’s Summer Paralympic Games, placing fourth.  Byron gives back to the community by recruiting new athletes, visiting rehabilitation hospitals and coaching introductory wheelchair rugby.

The Comox Valley Regional District is a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities providing sustainable services for residents and visitors to the area. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
