A trip to one of the sandiest beaches in the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) will be a little more enjoyable this summer thanks to the recent completion of a CVRD park project.
Visitors to Saratoga Beach will be delighted to find improved parking with a dedicated accessible parking stall, bicycle parking, a washroom, a change room and a fully accessible trail that will lead visitors to the beach.
CVRD directors, along with local residents and visitors to the area, celebrated the official opening of the park with a hot dog roast on July 9. Construction crews worked for over two months this spring to transform the Seaman Road beach access into Saratoga Beach Access Park, the new main parking and access point for this popular beach. The CVRD is appreciative of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure's granting of the use of this space.

Saratoga Beach Access Park on July 9.
“The CVRD has enhanced an under-utilized beach access to help address parking and sanitation concerns in the area while also creating easier access to the beach. Previously, you would have to scramble over logs to get to the beach,” said Parks and Active Transportation Planner Mark Harrison. “Now, with the installation of the trail and beach mats, visitors with strollers, walkers and wheelchairs will be able to easily access the sandy beach.”
The Saratoga Beach Access Park is located off Clarkson Avenue, one block south of Eyre Road which previously served as the main beach access. For more information about the park, visit www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/saratogabeach .
