Construction has begun on a new trunk sewer line that will increase capacity in the Comox Valley Regional District’s (CVRD) sewer system to accommodate population growth.
The Hudson Trunk Line - to be constructed in the Knight Road/Idiens Way area - will allow for sewage collected in northeast Courtenay to bypass the Courtenay Pump Station and follow an alternate route to the sewage treatment plant (the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre) located on Brent Road. The new line will reduce pressure on the Courtenay Pump Station, increasing its capacity and ability to deal with future growth in the community.
“This is an important piece of infrastructure for the region’s sewer service,” said Charlie Gore, the CVRD’s Manager of Capital Projects. “As with all construction, there will be some disruption, but we will be working to minimize impacts on local residents, and we thank residents in advance for their patience.”
Work has started on clearing land for the pipe route and construction will continue until May 2018. Alternating one-way traffic can be expected intermittently along the construction route.
