The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) parks department and the Comox Valley Accessibility Committee are working together to make regional beaches more accessible. Beach mats have been installed at the far end of Goose Spit so residents of all abilities can enjoy the fire pit with friends and family. Checking out the mats are members of the accessibility committee; James Stewart, Heather Thomson, Heather Crites, Marg Misener, and Judy Norbury, along with Edwin Grieve, CVRD board chair and director for Puntledge-Black Creek (Area 'C'), Bruce Jolliffe, CVRD director for Baynes Sound-Denman/Hornby Islands, (Area 'A') and Jim Gillis, CVRD director for Lazo North (Area ‘B’). Additional improvements to parking are to come later this year.
