The Comox Valley Regional District will undergo geotechnical drilling work on Lazo Road along the section that crosses the Lazo Marsh, beginning July 19 for a duration of three days.
The drilling work is part of the Sewer Conveyance Project and is required to better understand ground conditions along the proposed conveyance route.
Disruptions will occur along the section of roadway highlighted on the map below, as traffic is reduced to single lane alternating beginning the afternoon of July 19 through to July 21 from 7 am to 6 pm. All commuters are advised to take caution and abide by the direction of the traffic marshals.
About the Project
The Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project is a multi-year construction project that will replace the pipes and upgrade the pump stations that move more than 14,000 cubic metres of raw sewage each day. This is a significant and complex project that starts at the Courtenay Pump Station and moves through K’ómoks First Nation land, downtown Comox and the Lazo Road area to the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre (Sewage Treatment Plant) on Brent Road. There are construction impacts, traffic impacts and archaeological considerations. The CVRD is working with many jurisdictions and partners to deliver this project smoothly and efficiently and minimize impacts to residents and businesses.
Moving Forward
A key part of the sewer conveyance planning has been dedicated to stakeholder engagement and input from the community. We encourage the public to engage through the project page at www.engagecommoxvalley.ca/conveyanceproject, subscribe to our mailing list to receive regular updates, and to follow us on social media for upcoming consultation opportunities, project developments and traffic reports.
The Comox Valley Regional District is a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities operating on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional keepers of the land. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on providing sustainable services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
