Driftwood Marine Park Officially Opens

Residents from the Saratoga and Miracle Beach area joined Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) directors today in a ceremony to officially open Driftwood Marine Park situated off Clarkson Avenue in Black Creek.

The park, which connects the Saratoga Beach Settlement Area with Miracle Beach Provincial Park, was created as part of the subdivision of nine hectares of land into 14 bare land strata lots in November of 2006. In 2016 the park moved from inactive to active status and the planning began to upgrade the existing trail systems and build the necessary park infrastructure.

“Locals and tourists enjoy walking and biking through the park while appreciating the two distinct ecologies that exist within the park, a second growth fir forest and the brackish, intertidal marsh,” said Puntledge-Black Creek (Electoral Area C) Director Edwin Grieve.

Driftwood Park OpeningPark amenities include a new entrance and wayfinding signage, two bike-friendly bridges, a wildlife viewing platform overlooking the marsh, and a trail running through a statutory right-of-way to connect Driftwood Marine Park to Driftwood Road. Four bat houses have been erected to attract the nocturnal creatures so they can help combat the documented mosquito population in the area.

“Driftwood Marine Park is an integral connection as part of the regional district’s parks and greenways strategic plan and its amenities have been well received by the neighbourhood and by the greater community and will see greater use as the community grows,” said CVRD Board Chair Bruce Jolliffe.

More information about CVRD’s parks and trails can be found on our Parks and Trails page.

Comox Valley Regional District Electoral Area Directors Jolliffe, Grieve and Nichol, neighbours and members of Saratoga and Miracle Beach Residents Association, celebrated the official opening of Driftwood Marine Pak off Clarkson Avenue in Black Creek.

The Comox Valley Regional District is a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities providing sustainable services for residents and visitors to the area. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
