The Comox Valley Regional District is developing Phase One of an Agricultural Watershed Plan to address current and future concerns about water availability for agriculture, the community and fish and aquatic life in the Tsolum River watershed.
The Tsolum River runs through the heart of the Comox Valley and provides water that is critical to the health of the local agricultural community and the environment. The river and its aquifers also provide drinking water for homes, businesses, a school, and community centres.
An Open House will be held on October 29 to provide the community with an opportunity to learn more about the Tsolum River watershed and find out how to contribute to the first phase of the planning process.
The event will begin with a 30-minute presentation at 6:00 pm. This will be followed by an informal opportunity for community members to browse informative displays, provide input, and ask questions of project representatives.
Date: Monday, October 29, 2018
Time: Doors open at 5:45 pm, presentation starts at 6 pm. Open house to follow
Location: Rotary Hall, Florence Filberg Centre, 411 Anderton Ave, Courtenay
“We spent the summer gathering and analyzing data on the watershed and now we are ready to reach out to the community for input so that we can develop a plan to effectively manage water in the region,” explained Darry Monteith, Manager of Liquid Waste Planning.
Community members are also invited to provide input on the plan through an online survey available at: www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/tsolumwatershed.
The Comox Valley Regional District is a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities providing sustainable services for residents and visitors to the area. The members of the regional district work collaboratively on services for the benefit of the diverse urban and rural areas of the Comox Valley.
