CVRD and CUPE agree on a new four year agreement

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and CUPE local 556 union representing approximately 88 employees have agreed on a new four year collective agreement. On ratification, it will provide continued labour relations stability within the CUPE staffed services in the CVRD.

“From an employer perspective, we continue to appreciate the support, engagement, and commitment of both CUPE representatives and the bargaining unit as a whole,” states James Warren, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer with the CVRD. “We are pleased with the results of bargaining and we look forward to our continued collaborative partnership to enhance service delivery in the Comox Valley.”

The terms of the agreement include several housekeeping changes, convening a joint Group Plan Committee which will meet bi-annually to review benefit provisions over the life of the agreement, and a $0.68 increase January 1, 2021 followed by two per cent wage increases for the following three years until December 31, 2024.

“Our CUPE 556 members at the CVRD were pleased to be able to conclude bargaining on a positive with the Employer and its Representatives,” states Ian Mclean, CUPE National Representative. “Now more than ever is a time for all parties to work together in providing the valuable public services that we all enjoy. This Collective Agreement will provide stability to all parties in moving forward in these uncertain times.”

The collective agreement will be revised and will be available when ready on the CVRD website at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/collectiveagreements

The Comox Valley Regional District is a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities providing sustainable services for residents and visitors to the area.
