Cooling centres opening up across the Comox Valley as another heat wave approaches

The Comox Valley local governments are working together to provide safe spaces for those seeking shelter from high temperatures. A heat warning is in effect and Environment Canada is advising daytime highs will be above 30 degrees Celsius, combined with overnight lows in the mid to upper teens Wednesday through Sunday morning.

The CVRD and its municipal partners are advising residents who do not have adequate shelter, or want to escape the heat, to consider using one of the following options:

The Comox Valley Sports Centre, Arena #1

  • Wednesday, August 11 to Friday, August 13 from 10 am - 8 pm
  • Saturday, August 14 from 11 am - 8 pm
  • Sunday, August 15 from 11 am - 8 pm (if needed)

Downstairs at the Courtenay, Florence Filberg Centre (in partnership with Transition Society):

  • Open Wednesday, August 11 to Friday, August 13 from 1:30 pm - 6 pm
  • Open Saturday August 14 12:00 -6:00 pm.

Rotary Water Park at Lewis Park:
Water park hours extended Wednesday August 11 through Sunday August 15, open 10 am - 8 pm each day www.courtenay.ca/waterpark.

Courtenay Outdoor Pool and Wading Pool:

Comox Fire Hall Outdoor Cooling Mist Station (1870 Noel Ave.):
Located in front of the Fire Hall, daily from 11 am - 5 pm (offering shade shelter and a dog bowl for four-legged friends).

Comox Rotary Splash Park, Marina Park (127 Port Augusta St.):
Open daily 10 am - 8 pm

Cumberland Recreation Centre at 2665 Dunsmuir Avenue:

  • Wednesday, August 11 from 7 am - 9 pm
  • Thursday, August 12 from 7 am - 9 pm
  • Friday, August 13 from 7 am - 4:30 pm

Cumberland Council Chamber at 2675 Dunsmuir Avenue:
Saturday, August 14 from 1 pm - 6 pm

Cumberland Village Park, Water Spray Park
Open daily from 10 am - 7 pm
