Comox Valley Transit Workers and Operators Receive Praise

Transit Worker and Operator Appreciation Day is happening on March 18th across BC. The Comox Valley Regional District is teaming up with BC Transit to ensure our regional transit workers feel celebrated.

“There have been a lot of changes to the transit system this past year,” says Mike Zbarsky, CVRD’s Manager of Transit and Facilities. “We want to make sure our transit workers know how grateful we are for their dedication to providing great service to residents and visitors in our region.”

This past year, changes within the regional transit service have occurred including:

  • Adding a new connection at Deep Bay to the Nanaimo Regional Transit Service (twice daily Monday to Saturday).
  • Adding the UMO card and scanner, new fare payment option, onboard the buses.
  • As well as supporting the sewer conveyance project which will bring some schedule changes to route 1 and 2 and detours to routes 3, 4 and 15. These changes are accounted for in the revised schedule.

On March 14, the CVRD will host a booth at the Downtown Courtenay transit exchange, on Cliffe Avenue at 4th Street, from 7-10 am to promote the upcoming celebration of transit workers. Riders can also participate in Transit Worker and Appreciation Day online by posting photos or kind words using #ThanksTransit or by sharing a story online at https://engage.bctransit.com/thanks which could be featured on BC Transit’s social media channels.
