The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is advising residents that the Comox Valley Sports Centre summer camps will be re-activated with our first camps scheduled to start June 29. All recreation services have been closed since March 17 to help limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The re-activation of the summer camps at the Comox Valley Sports Centre follows the BC Recreation and Parks Association and WorkSafe BC guidelines. The CVRD will be offering summer camps at the exhibition grounds and the Sports Centre track and field. Moving summer camps into the outdoors ensures the two meter physical distancing requirement and cleaning protocols in accordance with Provincial Guidelines.
“In order to protect of the health and safety of users and the staff please keep your children home if they are sick or showing any signs of COVID-19,” explains Doug DeMarzo, General Manager of Community Services. “If they cough or sneeze in amongst the summer camps for allergies or other medical reasons you will be requested to pick them up immediately.”
Summer camp registrations resumes June 18 and can be done online through Perfect Mind or by phone Monday through Friday by calling the Sports Centre at 250-334-9622 extension 0. Summer camp registrations will be limited to 10 children per camp. Please note if you registered prior to recreation services closing down in March your spot is still confirmed. Account credits may be utilized for summer camps. Low income subsidies are available by phone only. Refunds will only be available if cancelled 24 hours in advance of your reservation.
“The re-activation of our Summer Camps is another small step in making our recreation services available for the health and well-being of the community again,” explains Sports Commission Chair Daniel Arbour. “We understand the importance summer camps have on families who are needing to work and adjust to this new norm. Please take some time to review the safety measures that will apply to each camp, and we look forward to see your children this summer.”
