The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is taking precautionary measures in support of the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Ministry of Health and their efforts to contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
CVRD Updates:
- The CVRD Grand Opening Event scheduled for March 18 will be cancelled and will be rescheduled to a later date. Other CVRD events will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine the requirements of needing to hold or if rescheduling is an option.
- The Comox Valley Sports and Aquatics Centres will remain open with programs running as scheduled. Staff have been directed to limit facility attendance to under 250 people based on the Provinces recommendation. Measures are being taken to increase sanitization within both facilities, including the closing to steam, hot tubs and saunas. “It is important at this time, that everyone takes the necessary steps to help stop the spread of COVID-19 while balancing normality within our community,” explains CVRD Chief Administration Officer Russell Dyson. “As of today, the BC Ministry of Health has one confirmed case of COVID-19 on Vancouver Island and no cases confirmed within the region. We are taking precautionary measures and will continue to monitor and plan next steps as new information is provided to us.”
The CVRD is working with the Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland and City of Courtenay to collaborate on response measures and best practices.
