The Comox Lake Bluffs Ecological Reserve is a 47 ha. protected area that is located in the Comox Lake Watershed. This ecological reserve protects a delicate ecosystem with many rare and beautiful plants. Warm, south-facing rocky outcrops tumble steeply down to the lake. These moss-covered bluffs are quite exposed, with a few trees that are adapted to seasonally dry sites, such as arbutus, Douglas-fir and shore pine. Ecological reserves are not created for outdoor recreation but many are open to the public for low impact intentional pursuits like hiking, nature observation and photography. Due to the sensitive nature of this reserve, motorized vehicles and mountain biking are not permitted. Join Ecological Reserve Volunteer Warden Mandy Vaughn for a guided walk through the reserve to explore the unique ecology and the challenges with human impacts on the site.
